2006: An Evening with Shobna Gulati (Our Sunita)

Ms. Gulati was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England.

Sunita Parekh arrived on the Street in 2001, fleeing from an arranged marriage and sought solace with her friend and boss Dev Alahan. Sunita settled on the street, where she was employed as shopkeeper in Coronation Street's Corner Shop.

Her relationships on the street included Duggie Ferguson and Ciaran McCarthy, to whom she was engaged, and then jilted at the altar. Soon after this Sunita discovered she had a brain tumour. As she fought her way back to health, Sunita was touched by how much love and affection Dev gave her - despite the fact he was engaged to solicitor Maya Sharma.

With Dev confessing his love for Sunita, Maya sought revenge on them by planning to frame Sunita for bigamy on her wedding day to Dev. Then culminating with Maya blowing up Dev's Shops, and ultimately leaving Sunita and Dev to die in the Coronation Street shop. Saved by Charlie and Ciaran from this ordeal, it has brought them closer.

At the time of our event, Sunita and Dev were having to deal with devious Charlie and his poisoning of their relationship with Rovers return bar manager Shelley Unwin.
